hi, I am new to the group and came down with yellow fever after my MTD "yard-machine" tiller took a dump and forced me to find something better.
So, I was reading this post because I was in the process of replacing the front wheel bearings on my cc 100 and was looking for some useful information and part numbers. The original bearings that I pulled from the hubs are HEIM RF 122214 AP and those are what I ordered as replacements. They arrived today and I installed the bearings in the right wheel, mounted the wheel on the spindle, and everything was good as new. I then did the same for the left wheel and the amount of play is only slightly better than before. I removed the wheel nut and washer and noticed that the spindle was protruding beyond the wheel bearing by approx 0.060". Before I reached for the power grinder to fix that, I swapped left and right wheels and the problem followed to the right side. I measured the spindle lengths and both are approx. 3.075" and match in length of a set I got off ebay. I am wondering if this was the problem of the original post by JMD and/or has anyone else has seen this difference in hub widths? rc

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
