Hey guys Im new here but thought after reading for days I would have to jump in...I have a 6 year old son that loves tractors so Ive decided to start his first tractor....for some reason all he can see is yellow....lol....Ive always been a jd fan myself but since he came along and rode his grandfathers 1250 cub it was all over....So Ive been looking for a while to see what I could come up with to start a year project for me and him to restore....Im in arkansas and its kinda slim pickens down here but I have managed to find a few old cubs...So far Ive found a 123 126 and a 122....Im thinking the 123 because I think it would be easier for him run being hydro thats where you guys can chime in Ive never been on any of these myself so I dont know....I also think its in the best shape of three as long as I dont Kill it getting it out....lol.....It has a huge industrial press leaning against the back of the seat It hasnt hurt anything on except the seat back so far....I'll get pic and you will understand.. the other two are in a old mower salvage yard so to speak.. all three are 100% there except no deck for the 123....That leads to my next question what model number tractors deck will mix and match with the 123.....Im all new to the cub thing so bear with me If I ask something stupid ......Im gona leave here for now but more to follow for sure.....Oh almost forgot... if i go get the 123 is there anything I need to know about making it free wheel before I drag it out dont wanta tear anything up tryin to drag it out.....thanks again

The deck from either the 122 or 126 will work on the 123.
The 123 is the first model to come out as a hydro drive. |

Transformer:
First, Welcome to our Forum..... ![]() In addition to what Lonny posted, if the 123 is non-running and needs to be towed, here is some information from the Operator's Manual... ![]() It is OK to tow these hydros, as along as it is not for long distances or at a high speed.

thanks for the replys guys.....and yes my son is pumped up about the whole thing......no one commented on the ease of use so Im guessing the 123 is the better choice....thanks also for the pic of the lever I figured there was something I needed to do to make it ok to move...... the operater and service manuels will probably be the first thing bought after I get it home...Getting it home may be the most challenging part of this whole deal....Im going after it this weekend and I figure it will take me most of the day to get it...I will definitely take some pics...may take a backhoe to be safe....the 123 is against a wooden fence with a huge press leaned on to the back seat of the cub what caused the press to lean was the growth of a pine tree it was set by 20 years ago....as the tree got bigger with the press next to it it leaned the press over on to the cub....the funny thing is this cub is in really good shape not a rust bucket like the others Ive looked at....My plan is to chain the press to the tree or hold it with a backhoe and take my 4 wheeler and pull it out.....wish me luck...... if anybody else has any Ideas other than that let me know .....again thanks for the info Randy

I think the 123 is a good choice, the hydro is built like a tank.I know this because I have 123,and slowly painting, and restoring it.It runs great.PHIL.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
