Default 1641 hydro no go

hello another new guy here. proud owner of 2 cubs 104 and 1641. like both.I live in south west pa.this is first time in a forum.
now my problem. the 1641 had a fuel problem. pulled the hydro release and towed it 100 feet to garage. fixed wire for fuel solenoid. engine starts and runs ok. but it will not move. mower will not lift. hydro is full.no noise no resistance when move shift lever.drained fluid checked filter looks ok.relief valve moves free.
any help would be appreciated.
thanks 8ncub

I've not owned or worked on a 1641 but IIRR it has a somewhat funky pump on it. If it has fluid, nothing is clogged and linkages are operating, then clearly there is a failure in the pump it's self. Yeah ain't sound'n good. Keep an eye out for a $50 used one.

8ncub:

First, let me say I have NO experience with this model.

The transmission is made by Hydro Gear.

I have read your post and basing it on a similar issue with the Sundstrand, this is my observation.

When you pulled the Hydro Release Lever, it had to engage some valve on the transmission, I suspect it is item C on the attached image. I suspect this ByPass Valve is stuck. Perhaps, removing this valve and checking it out for foreign debris, and/or free moving capabilities of the internal parts, might bear you some fruit.

If the transmission worked OK before you applied the Hydro Release Lever, then in my world, what ever that lever engaged, is the prime suspect.

Default 1641 no go

thanks for replies. hydro gear info gives me better understanding of unit. went to their web site . removed relief valve again.looks ok. I agree problem most likely has something to do with this circuit or charge pump relief valve.maybe towing caused hydro motor to pushsomething back into valve and keeping it open. I have to go work on my 104 mow deck broke spindles. check back later. 8ncub

finally got back to the hydro.I took seat and fender off and degreased tractor. disassembled charge pump looks ok. reassembled. poured fluid in suction side and pressured fluid came out pressure side.hooked up all lines, found a port on pump under suction line connection. removed plug and installed a hose and funnel poured in fluid started engine, poured more fluid, lifted mower deck, did this several times, now every thing works ok.previously I tried the method found at hydro gear site and it did not work.I think when I used the hydro relief valve and left it in relief position a couple of days the fluid all drained down causing loss of prime. this was quite a learning experience but all worked out ok. thanks for your input.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
