Default CC71 Brake adjustment

I need to stop as good as I go. With 50# wheelweights I'am not stopping when I back down the ramps of the Cub shop. As I understand the Blue Ribbon Service manual, adjust the brake adjusting screw "IN" to make up for slack. So my question is: If the adjusting screw is touching the lock nut, is it time to replace/re-line the Brake lining disc? I think I have about 1 inch to go before the two meet. I do have some brake, more so on flat ground, but not on any incline. Never made any brake adjustments to a CC before, so I wanted to ask the Pros.! Thanks, John

I would like to say so. I do have some thread before the head of the adjusting screw meets the lock nut.

take the nut and losen it so theres like a 1/4 in gap and tightion the screw in the middle so theres like an 1/8 in. play that should solve your brake problem.

Thank you Donovan M. I was looking for that figure. For some reason, I lost contact with OCC. I need to make up brake due to the added weight. Because "in or out as required" has me guessing with the wheelweight factor!

John, I just did this adjustment on my 102, and it really doesn't take much turning of the screw to give you more brake. I was to the floor with my 102, and a quarter turn made a huge difference! Good luck!

Teet- I do have 8.5's { turff} rear, and 6.5's {5-rib} front which it rolls more so. I'am sorta on a hill side.

I now have good brake! Jeff- your right, I only needed about 1/4 turn. May need to back it off some more after I run the tractor around a bit. Thanks guys! -John

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
