I knew I'd hear it about the JD! Just got that too. But here's the scoop. I decided my sister-in-law should have one because she gives us meals at harvest time and I really appreciate that. They have a big front mower jobbies that she does not want to drive so she pushes around a lawnmower.
I wanted a hydrostat for her to drive. Not a whole lot of vintage quality garden tractors in Saskatchewan as I guess most of the yards were cut and baled by bigger tractors at one time. Working on a budget this is what I found knowing that your getting some good value in quality built stuff. Going to give it to her as a surprize. Incedently my older brother and I have a bad case of iron fever. Got a 10-20, 15-30, w30, w6, w9, 350, 450, 650, Case tractors, MM tractors, Olivers etc. I would like a Titan because my grandpa farmed with one, but really don't think I could ever afford one.

welcome aboard Brent! What size engine is that shoehorned in there? The tractor looks a little rough around the edges but the nice thing about these cubs is you can always bring them back up to snuff.

What are your plans for it? I'd treat it to a coat of paint and a new seat as time and money allow.

550563 was built in April of 1975. I would say it is a 1450 or a 1650.

Here is some more disassembly pictures. I think he kept her well oiled. Shame how the engine was butchered in. Is that the flex drive the cubs use? Want take the steering wheel off, any hints or tricks to make it easy?

Default pto clutch

The electric pto clutch is missing. Mrcubcadet said the 656 cc Briggs engine was used in the 582. A 582 replacement clutch/pulley assembly then would be the correct one to get I guess. I can't figure out the part numbers of the various on line vendors so I could buy one. Any help would be apreciated.
Thanks
Brent

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
