My PO must have replaced the shift lever at some point, and when doing so he must have gotten it on a little crooked, so that it rubs on the right edge of the fender opening. It looks like a little bit of the fender was ground away to make it work, and the thin yellow strip in the front center, connecting the fenders is gone.
Anyway, I have a chance to get a parts tractor QL1000 just like mine which has a better seat, and a near perfect rear fender and shift lever, among other things. Can anyone tell me how difficult of a job it would be to replace the shift lever and rear fender? If I just replace the fender, my lever will rub, so both would have to be replaced. Something tells me the lever would require alot of tearing down. Maybe even easier to swap the whole rear ends? Any advice would be appreciated. Josh P |

As far as just replacing the fender pan, it is just a matter of removing the 4 bolts in the battery compartment and the 4 bolts on each side where your feet rest, then up and off. As for the shifter, it should not rub like that and I am pretty sure there is no way of putting one on crooked. Either the roll pin is worn out or something internal broke and they welded it back together crooked. The thing to do is when you get the fender pan off, remove the whole shifter plate that is on top of the transmission and look and see if you see anything worn or broken. There are some links for repairing the shifter if the gate is broken. I'll see if I can find that link.

Yes, someone else did mention that something must have been welded for it to be off to the right. It seems to function properly.

At this point, I'm hoping that the parts tractor will have a good tranny, and maybe I won't have to repair my shifter. JP |
