Another issue.....
I suppose when I was tooling around with the shroud off yesterday the voltage regulator shorted out on the engine or something. The battery is overcharging - the gauge is maxed out. I am also getting no spark at the plugs, and nothing at the points. I hope it didn't short out on the brand new coil and ruin that. I feel like God is teaching me a lesson in patience.....

Just a thought, but when I bought my 982, it wouldn't start. It ended up being a bad wire that runs to the positive side of the coil. Just for a quick fix, I ran a jumper wire from the voltage regulater to the positive side of the coil. It ran great like that. I eventually replaced the wireing harness to properly fix the problem. I hope it that easy.

Wound up to be the coil that failed. I swapped the coil with the original one, and it started right up. I must say, other than an occasional burbble, it runs really smoothly. Some new plug wires should take care of that.
Well....so far only an $80 casualty.....it's hard to believe the new coil failed. |

I was considering getting the service manual for the Onan or should I get the real deal paper copy? Is there a free copy available online at the Cummins or other sites?
I have an Onan engine disk, let me check and see if what you need is on it and I'll bust you off a copy. Let me know what engine you need. Mike C. BTW: Where in NY are you located. I'm down in the SE portion Rt 17 x I-84

Thanks Mike. I wound up getting the Deere version of the manual for $8 emailed. It's ok, but not as complete as I thought. I have the B48G, and the manual has more attention paid to the P versions. It has what I need so far, such as specifications.
I'm up in Washington County, east of Lake George. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
