it just may be... but... what i didn't realize in this whole process is that the solenoid had to be bolted to the frame in order to work... now when i turn the key, the solenoid clicks... no clicking in the VR or power to the start/gen yet...

WE HAVE POWER!
the VR was toast... i had to settle for a NAPA VR... it was only $35 but it works for now... i'll get a normal one when i get a chance... i don't like the fact that it's bigger and doesn't bolt on correctly to the mount... thanks for all the help! ... should be mowing again tomorrow! james

wow! i had no idea my 147 was going to be out of commission for as long as it was... replacing wiring harness turned into replacing many other things but now she's running again...
![]() however, now i have a quirky thing going on with my starter switch... while i couldn't get it to start, i went down the list of potential things it could be... i happen to notice that the spark plug only sparks when i turn the key about 75%... just enough to make the engine turn over... if i turn the key 100% till it stops (the way most people do) the spark plug stops producing a spark... not a huge deal... i guess if someone were to try to steal my tractor, they would get frustrated at the fact it won't start (unless you know of this "quirk") ![]()

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
