Just picked up this 2185 today so the good ole 682 can get a motor transplant. This has a great running 18hp Command engine in it. Best part it was on a barter deal. My friends step Dad picked up this very neglected 325 JD and wanted me to bring it back to life. Says he would give me the 2185 for payment and he would buy all the parts to fix it. List of items done on the JD.
1. Completely rebuild front axle hanger. Was ready to fall right out. 2. Repair seat pivots. 3. Engine work included adjusting valves, rebuilding carb and removing 15 yrs of crap from under the engine tin. Every single fin the the engine was plugged solid. 4. Change both hydro filters and hydro fluid. 5. Install new tire and tubes on the front. 6. Repair hood pivot brackets. 7. Pressure wash entire tractor Here are pics of the 2185. She ain't pretty but runs and mows like a dream. |

nice deal you got there! I've been trying to find that very engine locally and they are hard to find, and when you do the guys want an arm and a leg.
just for example there is one locally and the guy is asking 500 for it with unknown hours on it. I'd say you did pretty good all things considered.

I had a 2185 just a few years ago. Was one of my favorites as far as how well it mowed. The only issue I had was the front tire hitting the side panel on a hard off camber turn and pulling the side panel out. Aside from that, it would mow whatever I threw at it. Nice purchase.

Well Allen it will only look like that for a short period of time. It is a donor tractor for the motor, tires and mower deck. Can't wait to get that 18 Command in my 682. More power hohohoh

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
