1650 knocks hard when first turn over

Now that my carb is rebuilt. On to the next problem. Every so often when I first turn over he engine she knocks real hard. I mean the entire engine body rocks back and forth once. It generally starts up on the second try. But man it really rocks hard the first time.

Suggestions?

First thing to check is engine cradle mounts. Next, look for missing bolts from cradle to engine itself.

I asked you about those mounts in one of your other threads with the video and you seemed reluctant to check them. I can't see your tractor from here beyond that vid so I can only guess. It looked to me like your 16 horse was flopping around loosely the way your hood was rattling in parts of that vid.

Go out to the tractor, lift the hood and grab hold of the engine when it is cold and try to move it around by hand. If you can move it around, something needs attention. If the engine seems like it is firmly attached, it may be an internal problem, I've been reading about balance gears the past couple days.

check alll the bolts as suggested by cc1450. Also, check your ignition timing. Do those things and let us know what worked.

Sorry CC. I checked before. I also tried to move the engine around by hand. It seems very firm to me. But I can check again. Thanks and I am sorry if I angered you.

Nate,

It takes a LOT to light my fuse these days, and you definitely did not anger me in any way. Sorry if my post seemed condescending I did not mean it like that at all. I was just trying to stress, "don't overlook the iso mounts" since they seem to cause problems for a lot of our quiet line tractors.

I've been reading and looking around on the web about these K series engines since I have that one taken apart right now. If you check this youtube vid you will see the balance gears I am talking about.

He says one of his was broken, I am not sure if it is or if it is just a casting defect but from what I have been reading a lot of guys are taking these gears out of the bigger HP K series like you and I have because they can fail and cause some nasty engine damage.

My 1450 I am running and cutting with will shake hard the last couple revolutions of the engine when you switch the key off now that I think of it. It may just be the nature of the beast with these quiet lines.
