Default I suggest

Hey Nate
I would use a gun and be sure to spend the extra $$ to add the catalyst (hardener) to it. If you don't have a gun and want a cheap one that will do the job and give you a chance to hone your painting skills without worrying about messing the gun up get an HVLP gravity feed one from Harbor Freight for around $15-$20. Although I have DeVilbiss and Sharp paint guns I purchased a cheap $20 from HF to spray primers with and found that it did a real nice job spraying my paint.
I'm not a big fan of buying junk when it comes to tools but this time it paid off. Good luck, take your time, and make sure you have fun doing it.

Default Sample of paint job

Here's a picture of my 4 digit Original rear section. I painted the whole tractor using one of my "cheap" spray guns. Don't mind the over-spray tires, I use them to move my restoration projects around while working on them.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
