k301 governor
Hello
I need opinions on just replaceing the governor in a good running k301.Motor does not smoke or knock,runs strong.The governor is shot and I need to tear it down to replace it.Don't want a do complete overhaul as it runs so good. This motor is in a 1250 and it would be a good time to get rid of the balance gears while it's apart.

I would see nothing wrong with just replacing the governor gear. While you are in there go ahead and replace the governor cross shaft too. It will be a good time to de-carbon the head too. All you will need is a gasket set.
