Thanks for all the compliments. The colors are IH red and white from TSC. Just a rattle can paint job. I have always liked the looks of the Cubs that are painted red and white, just something different. Mike

Well, a couple of days after I took the pictures, I took the tractor out and used it. It probably worked more that day than it had in 15 years and it became apparant that some other items needed attention. I knew I had a problem with the right rear axle bushing and pulling the axle confirmed that. Also discovered that the brake didn't work and found out that that was most likely due to overfilling the trans with lube. Both axle housings had oil and sludge in them. After cleaning everything up and ordering some parts , this is where it currently sits. Mike

I am thinking they should have chose the one next to the sign 409, that is a great looking hood grill set up!

Sorry you had issues with you axle! Did you find a replacement for it? Tractor is looking good, keep it up!

Yes, I have an axle coming, along with new bushings. That old axle is pretty much gone. I had an old riding mower when I was a kid that I used to mow neighborhood yards and the axle broke on it while I was mowing. The mower had a plastic bushing that had worn completely through but was good on the other side. My Dad worked with some professional welders at the time and one of them welded the axle back together and my Dad ground the weld down smooth and you couldn't tell it had broken. I flipped the bushing over and went back to mowing and sold that mower about ten years later still working. I might see if someone could weld material back on this axle and then turn it down on a lathe, what's to lose. I really like this old tractor. Mike

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
