I think my first plan of attack is to repaint the mower deck and snow blade. Besides an oil change. Then I will get to tackling the engine. I just dont have the biggest confidence in myself when it comes to engines. Sure I can do minor stuff on cars. I even replaced the radiator to my dodge dart and that worked out ok. And lifted by jeep up with a shackle kit.

If you've done that stuff you will be fine. I'm only 16 and I make a good amount of money rebuilding these old kohlers. They are incredibly simple and easy to work on. An. Engine hoist or some kind of overhead lift will be invaluable to working in the iso mounts and such. Good luck!!!

I just get nervous. I look at everything on the mower and it looks daunting. I think my biggest fear is if I take it all apart that I wont be able to get it back on.

I just got the mower and well naturally I get a thrill of driving it and using it right now. So overall I'd still like to use it. So I am not sure if I should just take it all apart or not. It could use a complete repaint. I hate surface rust and I know it only will get worse unless I get it fixed.
Thanks for the support! ![]() |

That is what winter is for, LOL.
Fix the mechanical stuff first, right now and make it dependable and useable this summer. Then when you have the time. Start working on the way it looks and fixing the things you want while snow is on the ground.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
