I forgot to mention, that tractor looks like it is in excellent shape. How many hours are on it?

Did you check under the seat? Or maybe somewhere up along the front of the frame below the engine somewhere.

I just took a look at mine. Model and serial number are on a steel Cub Cadet tag where your left ankle would be, right behind the brake lock lever.

I'm pretty sure your model number should be 14A-734-100. Your serial number will be in the range of 864,501 - 899,000 so if you don't have the tag just pick a number in that range for the manual search. Hope this helps!

Dave it has 994 hours and I am the third owner. I am friends with the dealer who sold it new and then he took it in on trade and sold it again. The next owner who is a local well known county clerk had it a little over 10 years and traded it in on a zero turn. Then I bought it. I think its cool to be able to trace its history back.

Dave--there is a silver sticker in that area that has the number A25562 no ID tag or other numbers anywhere that I have found yet. No signs of one ever being there. I hope I can find some ID tag because I would like to get the exact year of manufacture. My dealer friend doesnt have the original sales records I asked him today.

Default Turning radius

My 2284 turns sharp to the left but not much to the right. Is that normal or should it be 50/50 even? The manual says equal radius but I have owned some tractors that would turn a little sharper one way or the other.

Most every lawn and garden tractor turns sharper to the left. They do this because you trim with the left side of the mower and could use the extra turning ability on the left side.

Congrats on the 2284, I really like the fenders!

PurplDodge,
Most tractors Ive owned are a little left biased but the 2284 is really bad. So much so that its hard to park in the garage. I intent to use mine for straight line mowing and pulling my yard trailer. If I get lucky enough to find a lift then Ill use it for a blade and gardening. With that in mind I think Im gonna set mine up more 50/50 turning then left biased. Any body else adjusted the turning?? Suggestions on doing it or not

When I am mowing the perimeter of my yard first I always am making hard right hand turns. I always try to have my equipment turn as close to a 50/50 as I can. It is just something personal I guess but I can't stand one to turn further one way than the other...

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
