Last night, my dad and I removed the wheels and tires from his 129 so they could be sandblasted and repainted. We notice the valve stems were on the inside of the rim. There was a small hole drilled in the lip of the rim to hold back the valve stem with mech. wire so they wouldn't hit the external brake. I have compared numerous pictures of other tractors rear wheels to his. The wheel and the tire are mounted properly except for the hole for the valve stem. Is this factory? Has anyone run into this before?

Don't believe that is factory. Sounds like another brand wheel. I know on the gag green Deere 214 I had years ago I could rotate the rear wheel either way to have a wide offset or a narrower offset. Depending on which way you turned the wheels the valve stem would be on the inside.

I've also had a tractor with the valve stems on the inside. DX3 is right, they are other brands rims.

My IH built Cub Cadets with external brakes have the stems on the outside and most of my CC's with internal brakes have the stems on the inside. The stems would hit the external brakes if it had stems on the inside. Obviously the internal brake systems can use both. Many pullers also like the internal brake rear end for their custom rim clearance.

Thanks for the info guys! If everyone knew what my dad was currently building, have a different brand of rim makes sense. Imagine this, early WF frame and front axle, 122 nose and hood, 1250 hydo transmission, 122 fenders, and these non-Cub Cadet wheels all painted IH red and white. He is doing away with the hydro control lever on the dash and is going to fab up a custom control, similar to a modified pulling tractor. Think he is crazy yet? How about a 12hp single cylinder diesel for a power plant!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
