The circumference on the stock 23" tires was about 72". The circumference on the new tires is about 80". That means that the speed boost should be somewhat close to 10%. I don't have a speedometer. I didn't know that speedometers were available on Cub Cadets back in the 1960's.

Since the Cub uses 24" diameter rims and the same trans axle as the Cub Cadet, I was not concerned about going with 26" x 12" tires on 12" diameter rims from the perspective of mechanical stress. My actual increase in rear axle height is just a little more than an inch over stock, and since I don't have a mower deck for it, I'm not expecting a lot of problems. ...but time will tell.

I would actually be interested in borrowing a set of Cub wheels to try on my little Cadet for a few minutes, just to see what it would be like. I am not sure if the Cub rims use the same bolt hole pattern as the Cadet, so I don't know if that swap would be easily accomplished or not.

Speedometers for vintage Cubs are not available for purchase.
But rumors persist that many a young lad's request was fulfilled by Santa Clause on Christmas morning.
You might give that a try.

I suppose that these days I could just mount a GPS or even a cell phone somewhere near the dash & monitor speed that way. I don't think that I would want to bother Santa with a request like that. He has plenty on his plate already.

Thinking back, the 8N I used to run might have had a tach that had rings on it that were calibrated in MPH for the four different gears. I don't recall ever checking my speed over the course of the several decades that I used it. Then again, I think that the multi ring tach may have been a common thing on most of the Fords that I ran. But again, it was something that I never paid attention to. If I needed more power to get a job done, I down shifted or increased throttle. Knowing an actual number for MPH never seemed to matter. If the tach needle was far to the right or left, it was time to shift gears. That was all I really looked at. ...and usually I just judged that by ear.

Why complicate things? I like tractors that are simple.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
