So far, I think it’s fixed!
Unfortunately I can pin point which failed since I replaced a few things but I believe I had more than one issue. Replaced points and adjusted to 0.20”. Mounted the condenser to the engine block. Replaced the coil with a new kohler brand. Start right up and ran around the yard to warm it up and adjusted carb. So far it still starts and runs great. Throttles up no problem. Hopefully it’s good to go now. Just ordered a box blade for it. Does anyone have a good write up on removing the mower deck? |

An improperly mounted condensor may have caused your throttle up issue. You can run without it but you would have erratic issues and cook your points..... whatever it was, glad it's all good for you!

I read the coils needed mounted to a good ground. The coil was mounted on the shield under the fuel tank. Which certainly does not have a good ground to begin with. The condenser was mounted to the coil bracket. Found a bolt close by in the block and used that. |

Still seems to be all good. Been starting it and driving it around the yard every day after work. Thanks everyone for the help! Found the manual for the deck. Can’t read the serial tag but it measures to be a QA 44. Going to pull that off this weekend and overhaul it. I ordered a box blade for the sleeve hitch and it will be here this coming week. Plan on grading the driveway next weekend with it!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
