Hi my dad had recently passed away and I now have his cub cadet. I've used it for the past year but don't really need it and was thinking about listing it for sale but I have no idea what to list it for. He was a member of one of these forums and got lots of good info over the years. This is what I have. 129 tractor, mower deck, plow, snow blower, tiller, wheel weights ,snow chains, snow blower has extended shoot and motor to make it turn. Hydraulic lift. The engine was rebuilt about 10 years ago. All the belts and parts. Any ideas on where to start on price would be appreciated.
Thanks |

When I bought my 147 about 15 yrs ago. Nice clean tractor. I got the deck, rear mounted plow, tiller, snow blower, chains, home mfg weights. Electric lift, has issues, works doesn't work. I paid $650.00 for all. From a work friend. His grandfather owned it. Good deal for me. I rewired the tractor. Fixed carbon build up on exhaust valve. Trans leaks now. I use one of my 1650s.

If I still lived somewhere where it snowed, I would pay $1,200 for all that, assuming that everything is in good working condition.

This thread should be moved to "What is it worth?" so that it can get the attention that it needs and be visible to others who are looking in that category of the forum.
As with just about everything else, your package is worth more when items are sold separately rather than all together. The 129 was a very common tractor, but yours has a hydraulic lift that was not standard to it. So, either it was modified at the dealership with that option or it was added on later. That increases the value of the tractor and broadens the scope for people who might be in the market, as older fellas don't like to manually lift heavy attachments, like snow throwers or tillers. Location also can affect your sale, as cubs are scarce in some regions than in others and that drives up price (or lowers it). I have not purchased cub items in a while, but in my area, I would price the entire package somewhere between $650-$850. If you separate the items, and that may take longer to liquidate all of them, then I would project somewhere between $1000-$1200. Personal advice: Think a while before you sell any of these. This belonged to someone in your family, who obviously utilized it for many tasks on their property. If you have a son, this might be a great package for him to cherish and use, perhaps make some money with by starting his own little business or to pass on down to his children someday. The quality of these tractors and equipment is not seen any more in today's market. That is why these machines have endured for 50+ years and with care will last many, many more. If you have a rental property or a summer cottage, then this would be a great machine for taking care of it as a 2nd machine for you. It might prevent you from hauling your machine around to look after things. Just think about these things for a while before you commit to selling something that may be very difficult to replace. You could also donate it to a church that is having a difficult time with rising cost of outdoor maintenance and then write that donation off on your taxes. I wish you well on whatever you choose. Where are you at in WI?
Big annual show coming up at Portage, first weekend after the fourth. Garden Tractor Daze. They have an auction there on Saturdays. Or you could bring your whole package there to vend at a spot for the weekend. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
