So I am looking to hook up my tiller, which I have to take the rear hitch to do so right?
It seems to me that when I unbolt the hitch it will begin leaking oil until I reattach the bolt cover plates. Is there a better way to do this that I'm just not seeing? |

What I did once was to back the tractor up on the ramp of a trailer so that I had it on a steep incline. Secure the tires to prevent rolling and unfasten just the bottom bolts of the rear cover that you need to in order to attach your angle gearbox.

I wonder if anyone has tried putting studs in where the bolts for the gearbox go with a nut to hold the back plate on then slip the gearbox bracket over that stud and put a nut and lock washer on that. It would move it back the thickness of the nut but don't think it should matter not sure.

Your bolts are too short. You need to buy the longer bolts for use with the tiller gearbox. Plate: You need 3/8-16 X 1-1/4 bolts.
Always leave the Rear Middle Bolt In Place on the Trans Cover Plate

And remember, the hitch does bolt right on to the tiller bracket it’s just upside down. Believe me before I would go to this much trouble back and forth I would bolt it on either upside down or redrill the bracket the other way if it’s an issue for height and leave it that way year round. Good luck

This manual may help, but the OP does not say what model. Looks like the tow hitch mounts the correct orientation.

Of course the PO has this wrong. LOL.
I plan on beefing it up this summer (if needed, going to the axle tube bolts like the xtreme sleeve hitch mount) and mounting the tiller on this machine permanently.
