If the knuckle is going to bend, it will be just above the stub because of the leverage applied there by weight on the tires. These hadn’t bent yet and I doubt they ever will, but I figured I might as well give it a bit of spine anyway. And it will help prevent warpage when I weld the stubs in.

Time to fill and drill the pivot holes, after I sketch out the hole layout.

I clamped the ears to a heavy copper plate, spaced up about 1/8” for full
weld fill. The metal should be hot when you start and filled in one shot, leaving it orange hot. This will make sure there are no hard spots in the transition zone. Let it cool slowly. I only did one hole per knuckle to start so I’d have a flat spot to bolt it to the table for drilling square to the axis. Then most of the weld got ground off and the new hole location scribed and punched as per the sketch |

Then clamped to the table and drilled, first a pilot hole than the 1/2” bolt size. Then repeat the process for the other side.

Next I machined a spigot on the stub and left a shoulder to keep it square the plate. Some preheat and some weld.

Just some clean up and paint now. I’ll swap the ag tires onto those rims sometime next week.

So the axle and hub upgrade is done and paint is drying. I took the tires off the new rims and wrestled the ags tires on to them. Man they are a bear!!
Before seating the beads, I got out the handy dandy Sawsall powered, rattle can rattler and shot some paint on the rims and freshened up the hubs. I’ll do the other sides tomorrow. I think the paint is hard enough on the hydraulic lines that I can start installing them too. |

The tube maze is done, with not too much consternation. I just have to pickup two quick couplers and make a bracket for them.
The axles and hubs are installed and waiting for the paint to harden on the rims. Fixed a few loose things on the dash and tower. I have a few things planned but not sure what order I’ll do them in yet. See what moves me in the morning |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
