Welcome to Only Cub Cadets. Yes, it would be wise to install a block heater for better cold weather starts. There is also a glow plug upgrade you can do. Some like and have good luck withe gear reduction starters but I like the originals better. Below is a link on how to attach pictures.

Here is some good reading on the glow plug upgrade and starter upgrade. I do not like the chinese starters. I am 0-2 and decided not to buy another. I found some NOS starters a few years back and bought those.

Thumbs up

Yea want to keep it original so in the future I will probably get new glo plugs and not the reduction starter, I got it this year and it was sitting for around 5 years just starting to move or just to idle for a bit so I was thinking there might be lots of carbon on the glo plugs. tractor only has 500 hours! got it for $1600

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
