Default Max watt for 1250
Hi, in the future I want to add lights to the 1250 I have. I want to know what is the highest total watts I can use without putting too much strain on the alternator.
I think its a 10 amp charging system at 12 volts so thats 120 watts is can produce. I don't know how many amps the electric pto takes either and unless I'm only pulling a cart, the pto would be on most of the time. Plus I need to have spare watts to recharge the battery. I'm looking for the brightest head lights I can get, at least for the snow thrower.

Does your 1250 currently have stock headlights? If so, I put GE H7606 Halogen Head Lights bulbs on my 1450. They are 30% brighter than standard bulbs but pricey.

You might want to think about mounting separate lights on the snowthrower. That way you aren't trying to see through the snow you are throwing. You could make it so they come on with the light switch instead of the tractor's headlights.

The 1250 never had lights, I was going to buy a used switch and run wiring to make it look factory.

I was thinking of buying a set of cheap lights to mount on the corner of the thrower also for that reason. I wanted lights on the 1250 and the thrower, but I don't want to put too much strain on it either, but if anything I would find a way to only have one set on at a time if needed.

The 1250 should have a 15A charging system. The factory head lamps (#4411) were rated @ 35W each.

oh sorry, it is 15 amps i think. so that is 180 watts. That does make it easier but what percentage of that is safe to use without straining the alternator and the general watts or amps used by the electric pto.

Well.......that's a good question. I would say (from my point of view) that I would use 80% as a safe factor. Gives you a little wiggle room.

I think a PTO clutch has about 4 ohms of resistance, so it'll pull 3 amps. That'll use up 36W of your allotment.
