when i start working on my o im thinking of going with a recoil starter just cause it not somthing you see often, kind of uniqe.

cubby, going to recoil because it's a unique feature shouldn't be your reason to change. the recoils for that specific engine were just that, but back when they made spare parts. you would need indiana jones or benjiman franklin gates to locate the parts as they wear quickly from each use, and are nla. i have tried different cup/recoil combinations, and wound up manufacturing one that only works satisfactory. but to have one for show and show only would be reason enough for me to have the original recoil. kind of makes you wonder why kohler didn't put that option on other engines from that era.

i kind of wish they put a recoil on all of these machines only as a backup. think about it, if your battery is too weak to start the engine but has enough power left for spark, you could start it with the recoil and then the engine would recharge the battery. just a thought
