Default 882 Electrical Issue

Hi All,

So, I have a newly acquired 882 that runs fantastic. However, the PTO shuts off when warm and the lights flicker and turn off when warm. I adjusted the Air Gap and that seemed to help the PTO stay on longer, but eventually the PTO shuts off and the headlights do to. If I wait a few seconds after turning the PTO switch off, it will turn back on but shuts off again after a few more seconds. I also noticed that the headlights shut down also and flicker when this occurs. All this happens after the tractor is warm. Could it be a bad circuit breaker or relay? Thoughts on the issue?

Thanks!

These tractors do have a 12V 40A relay mounted to the right of the generator regulator/inverter on the muffler side of the tractor under the battery on the tray framework. They do get weak over time. They look like this:

MTD part number 725-3090 or 925-3090

Awesome, thanks. I thought that may be the problem so thanks for chiming in. Mine has a little button on it. Know what that was for? I'm going to see if a local auto parts store has one. Otherwise I'll order one. Cub wants like $35 for one. Nope! I'll reply back after trying this and let ya'll know if it was the culprit.

Before buying a breaker, check all the connections. I had a similar issue and it was corrosion on a connection at the breaker stud as well as another point.

Yes, I started doing that. I already cleaned the breaker studs and connections, along with several other grounds. I think I may try the one below from Napa. It's like $4. This one has a mounting bracket but I can easily cut it off or leave it.

NAPA BK 7823108 is closest to OEM.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
