Default Model number?
The number I have on the tag says 139-252-100. The Guy I bought it from, says its a 1420.
Does this make sense? I was expecting to see a 1420 on the tag.

The tag is correct/ The 139 indicates it is a Lawn Tractor. The 252 is the factory model code, and the 100 indicates it is made for Cub Cadet.. BTW it is a 1989 model.

YUP....It is CCC/MTD built. Any Cub Cadet built in 1981 and later is CCC/MTD built.

Yes, that is the book I am hoping to get very soon. I have heard it is very informative. I kind of thought most of the knowledge was learned over the years. Thanks for the info.

oops!
I was posting in the wrong section. I saw the cub cadet mtd and said that's it, but didn't catch on to the LT and GT. I got it now,duh.
