Default 782 series 1 or series 2 which is better?
I just got 2 782s one is from Cleavland the other from Brownsville. The Cleavland is a series 2 Both are kinda rough but the cleavland looks to be the later made one and a little better shape.My question is would one be more desireable to restore than the other? any opinions are welcome thanks

The series II is the better engine with pressure lubrication. The series I is splash lube.

Since both tractors are CCC-built, neither is going to be more desiriable than the other to restore. However, if one of them has a serial number below 719,999, it should have a cast iron rearend, and that would be the one I'd want to keep if it were me. If you're planning on restoring one, use all of the best parts and then reassemble the not-so-good parts onto the other tractor.

The series 2 engine is a better choice with higher pressure oiling and full pressure to the rod bearings, instead of a splash system.

Default cast iron rear
yes the brownsville one is 704200 cast iron rear. as far as restore ,I guess what I really mean is refurbish to working condition.Thanks

Actually, Matt G is NOT totally correct. Both the KT-17 Series I and Series II had a pressurized lubrication system. There difference was in the Rod Journal lubrication. Series I relied on the Splash method while Series II had pressurized journals. Thus, the Series II would be the better version. As per the Kohler Service Manual.....

Default ah ha that might explain some thing
The series 1 appears to be stuck I wont say seized because I know there are a couple things it could be and I havent got too far into it. I may not have 2 good motors the series2 will spin by hand which is a good start

Getting the 782's ready for revamp. that cast iron rear on the one is the way to go. like I told you when your ready I have the fenders and hood for you just stop buy.
