Default Power Steering 1862

Morning Folks

Trying to address a couple of the multiple leaks I have on the
1862. The power steering is the first. It appears to me it is the steering
cylinder itself that is dripping. The drip is coming from where the rod
goes in and out of the cylinder. Can these be worked on at all or is
it a matter of replacing the whole cylinder. 220.00 dollars for the part
hopes the answer is they can be fixed. But am afraid the answer is replace it.
What do you think?

Ken

sorner was a BIG help when I had to do the cylinders over for my 1772. He had all the sources and part numbers I needed. Cylinders you ask? I was originally just take the cylinder off that was leaking internally and replace it with one I bought that was "supposedly" gone over and working 100% with no leaks internally or externally. That replacement cylinder was even worse than the one I took off. So, I just bought 2 sets of seals and did both of them up at the same time. I measured where the parting line was for the cap on the cylinder, then smoothed out the existing weld and used a pipe cutter to open it up. This worked perfectly and had a nice edge to weld back together. The only problem I had was the plastic wire spool in the miller-matic decided to disintegrate. When the wire stopped feeding, I opened the side panel and what came out was like a tangled slinky.

Thanks guys for the link , that was indeed a good read and for the
hop[ it actually works Frank.
On to the next leak and its a pretty big leak. It took me till I pulled
the mower deck off to realize where my fluid was going. On top of the deck.
It seems to be leaking right above the white line in the picture.
Is it just the O rings in there or something else I need to be aware of.
Other then the leaking the Power Steering is working great.

Looks like time to rebuild the "Pump" as it's called or control valve. Oak has good write ups on what to do.

I was afraid you were gonna say that Sam. Looked through Oaks
pics and such and would not even attempt it without his groundwork.
Great stuff. Still a little above my skill level but will have to give it a shot
one of these days.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
