I posted pics over in the welcome forum about this 582. I've changed the carb out with a new one and cleaned up the throttle linkages, and it seems to run pretty well! It hadn't been started in years, so I soaked the cylinders before turning it over by hand to make sure I didn't stick a ring or anything. Once it fired up and cleared out, it runs and sounds good, no smoke or noise.
Can't say I'm a fan of working on that throttle linkage haha! Here's my issue. I doubt that PTO was ever turned on since it never had an attachment on it. When I flip the switch, it will spin but it bogs the motor down to the point of killing the engine, even when I try to give it full throttle. Are these PTOs difficult to replace? Can they be rebuilt? Or is this an engine problem with it being down on power or something? |

NO, they are not difficult to replace. YES, they can be repaired....IF....you have the tools to do so. It sounds like a PTO problem.

I am assuming you have the deck belt on when this happens. If i recall you had to buy a deck or one was with it but never used? Either way, The problem could lie in the deck or belt routing,.

When I first got my 782D, the the belt on the deck was really misadjusted and loose. While the diesel started right up, when I enabled the PTO for the deck, the belt would slip and the blades were moving really slow. I adjusted the belt and when I started it up and tried again, it stopped the engine. I then tried 1/4 throttle, same then, 1/2 throttle same again. The 4th time I had it up to full throttle and tried again. The engine slowed way down to just under a loaded idle and started there for about 5 - 7 seconds. Gradually the engine speed and the deck speed began to increase. After about 30 seconds it would run at full speed. I shut it down and tried again at idle to engage the deck. I worked fine and I never had a problem again with it.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
