Default New to me 3205 stops running when hot

Hi, I may be jumping the gun... picked up a 3205 with Kawasaki engine and snow blower the other day. 1999 I think. I don't know much about it. PO says it quits running when hot, starts ok again when cooled off. I haven't had it quit on me yet. Is it ok to just let it sit and run until it stalls and then check for spark?(don't want to burn it up!)
I've searched forums and the causes I've seen are possibly coil or gas cap..
Runs great so far. Just trying to be proactive and see if I can pin down the problem before I get left out in a snow pile.
Maybe someone here has run into this issue?
Thanks in advance for any advice! Gary

It could be a coil that is very close to total failure. ( could be a lot of different things)

Since it's a "new to you" machine, it would be a good idea to pull the tins off the engine to make sure it has clear air flow over the engine.

I had the same issue on my 3205. I ended up replacing the igniter and my problems went away. I also had a failing fuel pump that gave similar problems.

It is located down by the left side between the engine and frame rail. Double check the numbers and shop around because prices are all over the place.

Check everything else first.....fuel pump, filters, fuel lines, fuel cap & carb solenoid.

Be very careful using the differential lock on your tractor. Do not engage it with the wheels turning. Let off the forward/reverse pedal then depress the diff lock and then slowly use the forward reverse pedal.

I love my 3205 and it is my main mowing machine. No other Cub Cadet is capable of giving a fine cut as do the 3000 series with a model 289 or 290 mowing deck.

I have owned a 3205 for about 7 years and I think they are fantastic tractors as well.

My ignition issues with the FD620D have all been related to the CDI ignition module. I found lots of poor connections at the pigtail going into the board. Reworked the solder joints and it has been a very reliable machine. That one had me chasing my tail for a minute. Even pondered using the pulsers to trigger an aftermarket module to control the spark since the replacement modules at that time were like 300-400 bucks.

I too had fuel delivery issues, both the pump and the carb. Both of them would only show themselves after my wife had run the tractor for an hour while I was at work.

I'd come home and it would fire right up and I'd take it back to the garage. Problem occured twice, actually, and years apart but caused by two different issues. Really strange.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
