Default CC 127 motor rolls over when battery connected

OK guys, I need help. I am working on a CC 127. My brother-in-law put a new wiring harness, new voltage regulator, and a new key switch in it. It has several issues but I started with the issue of the battery not charging. I assumed that was an easy fix, just polarize the voltage regulator. I tried that and smoked the voltage regulator. OK....it's an electro-mechanical device so I attempted to fix it by replacing the wire that I thought I had burnt. When I hook the battery up now, it rolls the tractor over without me touching the ignition key. Next I suspect either the wiring or the switch is the culprit. I have checked and double checked and they both seemed ok. So, I ordered a new voltage regulator and installed it. The tractor still rolls over when I hook up the battery. The problem is not the solenoid. It appears voltage is feeding through the regulator to the starter although I am surprised that it will carry enough current without smoking something else. Any ideas? Please!

I believe what happened was when you touched the hot wire to the wrong side of the voltage regulator it most likely welded the contacts together on the “current “side of it. You might be able to save it by pulling the cover off the regulator and prying those 2 contacts apart. Check to make sure everything is hooked up right and as far as “polarizing” the regulator nowadays I don’t think it needs done. Good luck

I had the same issue after installing a new voltage regulator. Someone chime in here with a better answer as to where to hook up the wires on the regulator. They do hook up differently than the original regulator.

You need to correct the wiring on the regulator.
Do not go by the location of the terminals, as they are not standardized.
look close to what the reg. terminals are labeled as. then connect the CORRECT wires to them.
No need to polarize those regs. and if you do, a sub instant spark of the wire is all one needs.
If you have too, follow the wiring diagram and insure that the wires in the harness actually are what they are suppose to be.
It is simple, just think it out.

The voltage regulator is wired wrong as stated. Follow the diagram closely, there’s only a few and if it has a new harness it should have the correct wire colors as well.
