I understand the engine cradle upgrade for wide frames allows for longer idolater life but does it help cut back on engine lope? Seems like it would.
At lower engine speeds mine just shakes like a Muscle car with a radical cam in it! Want to calm it down so it doesn't shake other parts loose and cause cracks in certain places. ![]() Chase

I use a Sirometer. Sold as a Tecumseh part # 670156 RC.
I guess I would like a digital tachometer but this works and is kinda cool once you discover that it works on the principle of organized chaos.

Not much different from a reed tach.
I'll check the local power equipment shop. One question though, what about using it on engines that have those counterbalance shafts? I think the 16Hp Kohler in mine is supposed to have one. Thanks |

My Dad added an extra brace to the cradle on his 1450.

I have used it on both types. With and without balance gears. It works.

Anybody ever use this tach? Price is right.
http://enmco.thomasnet.com/item/enm-...1001&forward=1 Presently, I set the governor top speed with a Stihl chainsaw tach, (almost a must have for tuning chainsaws), it works by holding it next to the spark plug, thru it's internal inductive pickup. Also, I understand it's not good to idle a K Series single too slow as that can damage the compression release system. |

The ACR system is suppose to engage/disengage at around 600 RPM's. This is well below the minimum RPM for idle.

But many are tempted to slow the engines way below that spec, just for the "cool" factor. The heavy flywheel on a K series single will allow for that. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
