I am halfway through swapping my 1250's non ported pump for a ported pump so it is easier to lift attachments. One question is which way does thd cork gasket go on? It's the only thing holding me back from getting it done. Thought i heard it goes on adhesive side to pump, but can't find where i heard it. Any help is appreciated.

Clean mating surfaces!! Apply sticky side of new gasket to pump. Reassemble and have fun!

I've had much better luck sticking it to the pump. The pump has a much more noticeably smooth surface. If you look at the stick side of the gasket, it too is agreeably smoother that the non-stick side. The cast iron section on the trans axle is not as clean cut as the pump,... giving the non-stick side of the gasket a better chance to mate for a better seal.
Something to think about ![]()

The sticky DOES NOT make a seal. It is just for holding the gasket in place until it is crushed, thus making the seal. Where it is "stuck" is irrelevant, as that adhesive does nothing to seal it. It's just to make installing the pump easier because the gasket doesn't just fall off during installation.

I just did not have the outcome I was expecting when I stuck it to the cast iron the first time. Also some say the gaskets are slightly thinner. We all seem to agree it’s best to place it on the pump first. Again not debating anyone’s good judgement. My own experience having done this a number of times!

Might be a good question for the tips or FAQ section.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
