Default 128 quieter welded muffler

I got this muffler used from Lew a while back.. It's the welded version that is currently offered as OEM thru Cub Cadet.

I pulled the 128 in over the weekend for a Carb overhaul and tune up.. I decided to try out the muffler I got from Lew... only took about three minutes to swap out... I was surprised to old one came off so easy..

All I can saw is WOW! I will never run the old crimped muffler cans again!! This thing is MUCH quieter but still has a nice throaty thump to it.. it really knocks the edge off the sound.. even at wide open throttle. I guess this is Cub Cadet's modern day version of the noise reduction kit!

I am well pleased! This is a very well built heavy muffler.. should outlast the original two to one!

The 122 I just got has one on it and I have to agree, it's much quieter than the original.

Weird, I had the ringing for a while//seems like that is gone for a while now, but over the last few weeks I seem to be getting the crickets sounds, but mostly at bedtime. So far that don't bother me, as it reminds me of something else I love to do and that's camping. Yeah out in the woods.
I do know that I have some loss on the higher end of the hearing range back when I worked ind maintenance we had to get tested yearly, they'd have the hearing test trailer parked right by the entrance to the shower house for a couple of days....

You can get them straight from Cub Cadet or anyone else that sells OEM cub cadet parts

Here is a link to it on the Cub Cadet site

I'm going to have to get some of those for my machines. My 126 is LOUD. Makes me wonder if there's even any packing left inside the muffler.

After hearing this new muffler I'm pretty sure the original muffler is no more than just a spark arrestor! Cub Cadet seems to have a better a price on this thing than anybody else.. they list it at 74.00.. most everyone else is around 125.00!

Default 128 Muffler

I just placed an order for a muffler for my 127. CubCadet.com may have the best price for the muffler, but they want $135.00 for the elbow(!). Fortunately, mine is still in usable condition.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
