I have been working on my sons 149 as the speed is all over the place, the hydro linkages are worn from pins, to the bushed holes.. The tips on fixing these have been great, however even the pins that ride in the slotted holes have worn flat on this 149...
I'm sure new replacements would be expensive to say the least, so I'm wondering is there any easy way to fix the pins back to spec easy ?? The slotted holes don't seem to be worn, of if they are it's very little. If no one has an easy way I plan to drill the pins out, then make new pins, out of what material yet I'm not sure. I made bushings from nylatron, and now the difference is day & night on those items that have been re-bushed. The white friction bushing in my opinion (and with the one whom wrote the how to fix the hydro) is not the best way of dealing with this. I have a extra set of linkages, and I plan to bore the bushing areas out to install a small sealed bearing in place just to see if it will hold up etc. These linkages although several years newer than the 149 are still worn in the exact same places.. Do not use a ball bearing there... They will wear funny since they are not making full rotations. Use a bronze bushing instead. For the wear on the cam pin, I would weld up the wear and carefully grind it back down.

Matt I have not thought of the full rotation problem, however we have a ball bearing at work that on sees between 1/4-1/2 rotation, however this could be a special ball bearing, it is sealed, and runs atop a shaft only to center as there is no real load.. and we have had a lot of problems in the past however it was from water, and my suggestion was to use a bronze, or brass bushing instead... I agree with you now thinking about it... It would be no problem installing a bushing of any kind here really.
I'm not to good of a welder, I could weld the pins up... but there would be some grinding down work for sure. I'm still on the fence on this problem, however it needs to be fixed as I'm using this machine now to mow grass with... |

I should also mention that you'll need to anneal the plate before you can bore it for a bronze bushing, as it's hardened.

Thanks, and I may indeed have to do that, however I plan to bore it on a lathe using carbide inserts... I have run into some materials that were to hard for even carbide inserts which I have ceramic inserts as well... still you will find some hard materials.
