Default 149 ignition key

Hi everybody,
I just joined and this is a very interesting site. I got a 2 for 1 deal on a couple 149s and one came with a key and the other didn't. Whee can I find another key for the keyless? Thanks, Gardentoys

....and if you are feeling real electrically savvy, you can rig up a remote control start and throttle to your engine to run your 149 without you in the driver's seat. I'm not for sure how the steering would be worked out, but it would certainly be interesting to see the look on the neighbor's faces when they see your tractor mowing your yard without a rider!!! Especially if it is coming toward them!:biggrin2.gif:

I did observe a man once who had this rigged up on his Kohler engine, so I would imagine with a little more ingenuity, some kind of actuators perhaps, a remote control steering might be feasible!!!......Just a thought. Welcome to the forum!!

If you have a good locksmith nearby, you can have the key you have copied. There is an Ilco blank that matches, but it's kind of a weird one and most places don't seem to carry it.

I bought a couple at the cub dealer for $1.70 brand new. They had a whole box full of them.

I paid a lot more at the dealer for mine this Spring! I am getting less and less fond of my local CC dealer. They were a JD dealer for as long as I can remember and switched to CC about two years ago. They aren't very knowledgeable on the old stuff and don't have any left over 40 year old Cub parts that they want to get rid of either.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
