I rebuilt the one in a 318 following the photos on the site posted on TBN and WFM sites... Went together easy enough if you take your time and make sure everything is CLEAN!

When the new springs get here, I'm going to drape a small curtain around the area of my work bench where I will attempt to assemble the beast again. If the springs should launch again I'll catch them. First go round I had a ton of stuff on the rest of the work bench and the spring must have hit and rebounded in to no mans land. I looked for over an hour without any luck. It's actually a pretty simple valve, some of the larger ones I've done on loaders are a bit more fussy.

Well I finally got the springs to stay in place and assembled the steering box. I put the column back in the 2072 and decided to give it a good test. As soon as I found it leak free, I hooked the tractor to my box blade and worked the tractor for two hours continuously grading part of my driveway. The steering worked perfectly and the entire column is dry as a bone.

Yep, that's the kit I used, purchased thru Messick's. It fit perfectly. For an additional $11 I would strongly recommend that you purchase the springs (kit) for the valve plate too. The little buggers have a habit of launching themselves into never found again land.

I know its an old thread. but do you happen to have the spring kit part number from messicks? just picked up an 1872 that rumored to leak every once in awhile. judging by the amount of dirt build up under it I have no question that its leaking.
