Really?
I find it to be more as a stated fact... If a mechanic doesn't know how to get a pulley off the shaft. Question is, is he just playing a mechanic on tv???

Is this a vertical shaft engine? If so you should just pull the bolt and everything slide right off--if you are lucky. If its bent, sounds like somebody tried to pry it off. Does yours have an electric clutch? Regardless , I generally put on a dab of neverseize when putting those back on.

@ Sam Mac: you were spot on w/your suggestion about the upper pulleys...my guy tore down the mower completely, including removing the engine and I just couldn't believe all the dirt/trash that was embedded on the frame around it. 2 of the 3 pulleys were bad, one wouldn't even move at all and the other was the culprit that was making the noise. Also discovered was a BAD engine pulley, so bad that two ½" holes were were worn through on the inside of the rim surface. He replaced the drive and deck belts and returned it to me on Thursday. Sounds like it did when I first purchased it! So quiet. And remember...this is a 2003 model and the pulleys were the original, first time they have ever been replaced.
