If it's not too late, here's an ad for a Kohler M20 in western Pa.

If it's out of a 1641, try to get the plate that the engine bolts to along with the complete drive shaft and muffler.

Shouldn't need the switch. The Briggs ignition was magneto just like the Vanguard he's getting.

I don't know why he would need the driveshaft unless just to sell or save for future projects. 582 is gear drive.... that shaft isn't going to work with the clutch.

Just curious.... question for the OP:

You said this needs to be a simple install. There's quite a bit of difference in length between the old Briggs and the Vanguard. You do realize this isn't going to just bolt up right? Your probably going to have to make a new driveshaft.

I wanted to thank everyone here for there help! Sorry for the hiatus, right after picking up the Vanguard engine everyone in my house got really sick and then I got busy at work.

So long story short. I was able to get the Vanguard engine installed in my 582 using a 3 pin drive plate that has the alignment bearing installed. Along with that I purchased an adapter plate that also made-up the difference in length so the front PTO lines up. (I can take some pictures if there is an interest)

The wiring was pretty straight forward (except everything is one the wrong side) with the exception of the fuel solenoid (just learned what that was after trying to start the new engine with no success) The choke cable was long enough but the throttle cable was way too short (hopefully will get a longer one today).

Thank you again for all your help on this project! I learned more about my Cub than I thought I would ever need to know.

Forgot to post a quick clip of my 582 shortly before getting some snow to plow. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uwaF...8&spfreload=10

Since the video I replaced the plugs and now you can't stop her!

Thanks everyone!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
