I got a lead on two cubs from a guy at work, a 682 and a 1282. He said to be in good shape. I was just wondering about some specifics on these machines type of engines transmissions and any things that are problematic on these or any thing I should check on it. Do these engines have iso-mounts as on the QLs that preceded them? I just put a new set on the 1200 and mowed an acre and a half today ran smooth as a singer sewing machine. Thanks for any info. I will update if a make a deal on one or both of them.

The model 1282 was a Cub Cadet Corporation built garden tractor that was painted red for the IH dealers. While IH began production of the 682 that started out in red paint, CCC continued the model but was returned to yellow and white colors, production ended in 1984.
I'm not sure which model 682 you have, and not certain of any specific difference in value, or collectability. Much of the designs, or thought behind IH's Quiet Line models were incorporated into this "new" series of garden tractor. These series would accept engines from Kohler, Onan, Briggs & Stratton, and I'm pretty sure a Kubota D600 was slipped into the frame a time or two. I would try for one of these two models if I had the chance, both are great! Good luck!

They are essentially the same machines with different engines.
The 1282's engine does have rubber mounts, but not ISO mounts like a QL has. They are different and seldom if ever fail. Other than that, the only real question is do you want 17 horses or 12. If the engine in either is wore out, the 12 HP is a much cheaper repair. You can repower either with whatever you want. Like I said, they are the same with exception of the engine. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
