Hey I didn't know you could by that oil by the gallon. That's good to know. I was paying like $7 per quart. I bet the gallon is cheaper (if I can find it).
NiasNeb;40932-.....Make sure the cover is not damaged as if someone missed the trailer toung and striked the cover. Mine was not flat, but if I torqued it down correctly, it shouldent be a problem. I say the oil I used is what you may use, BUT, there are other good brands of oil as well. What do you guyes use to insert the oil? I figure to use what works best in the gearbox and diff. of my f100. Thats the Rainbow pump oiler. Holds 10oz. , but it may take me a few cans to fill the 7pt. gearbox. I'am glad to be done, now just wait so the Permitex Indian Head gasket sealer to cure a day or so! Used steelwool and cleaner on the mating surfaces. Jeffscub-.....Here they are, all painted up, Thanks again for a job well done and how you delt with me! I did make a templet by the way, of my diff. gasket. I can make them now. I did brush-paint these parts, so they may show. I think the paint will hold up. It was not a wast of time as I had said.

You used this on the transmission cover? Is that something recommended to do? I'm concerned that the cover won't mate perfectly (why else wouldn't the previous owner have fixed this leak is my thinking).

I get my HYTRAN from my 'local' Case/IH dealer by buying from their bulk supply. The Case/IH dealer was selling a gallon for $.50 more than the Cub Cadet dealer straight across the road wanted for a quart!
Well that's good to know. I'll get that done today. It doesn't even have to be close by (have Goldwing; will travel!). Thanks for the tip.

I made sure the tractor was clean and DRY. Then used only a thin coat covering all surface area. The directions say to let set up, and held the gasket to cover to tractor nicely. I never went wrong with this stuff .....its just my own recommendation.

I'll have to steer you away, as I dont have your tractor so,....I dont know if bolt holes are cracked or what. Clean up the cover or where ever its leaking from. Check for tightness on all the bolts? Axel seals?

That's okay. I've got enough information now to do damage and give this a try on my own. I can put internet in the garage and position the monitor just right and then everyone can look over my shoulder should it come to that.

I found a local dealer that will sell me the Hytran in bulk for $11 per gallon (and that's cheap enough for me; beats $7 per quart).

Thanks!

Default Oil added...

Tonight I filled up the trans.axel with the 1gal. Hy-Tran and was not full. So I added some of this Lubri Matis high performance gear lubricant, sae 85w140 ep.,/ with limited slpi differential protection. 1-1/2qt. of this. I thought it was too much. Now waiting for leaks. I'll steer it around tommrow, I think I had enuff cure-time on the gasket job. The plasticcyclops 089.jpg street elbow I found was the ticket. So I'd have to say I will be buying a steel street elbow and simply hold the funnel and oil to it. Worked well, and quickely drank it up......way faster than my good'ol idea of the rainbow pump oiler! I did not here say how you guyes do it, but this worked for me.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
