Hey guys wanting to know what spark plug you like best for 12hp Kohler in a 102 upgraded probably a 1970 motor.
I picked up one from cub dealer but it's threads were much longer than current plug so I wasn't about to use it.. Manual says Champion RHIO but wanted to see if you guys have one you like best... Could be I bought it with the wrong spark plug in it to begin with but unsure. I searched the archives but didn't see were anyone had stated a specific spark plug... Thanks PS.. do you recommend using a lead substitute in gas for these older motors? |

I use Autolote 216 plugs. Champion number should be H10C.

I run Champion plugs.
No lead additive is necessary. Read the manual. It tells you all this stuff. |

I use both the Champion and Autolite plugs. Going by the Operator's Manual, recommended plug is the Champion. I tend to reach for the Champion plug when at the tractor store more so, however.

I had too many problems with champions in the past. I will take Autolite sparkplugs any day.
Kohler manual says to run unleaded fuel in your engine.

I'm with Merk. No champion plugs in any of my engines. Autolites in my Cubs and they work great.

I can honestly say I never had an issue with the Champion plug regardless of recommended opinions of other enthusiasts.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
