This 1864 I picked up earlier this summer is my first hydro. Is the whine normal? Can barely hear it at low rpm's but once you raise the throttle it's very noticeable. Worse when cold and gets better as it warms up.
I have not changed the fluid in it yet but it is crystal clear and the filter is pretty clean also. I'm thinking it was changed recently but I need to do it again just to be safe. |

The whine is normal but I would change the fluid/filter anyway, you may find its a bit quieter.

Yeah, I'm planning to. I have the part numbers written down in my wallet for the filter and type of fluid but just haven't bought them yet. Bought this back in June I think it was after my 582 blew up and then ended up in the hospital for 2 weeks and fell behind on everything so I'm just now getting caught up. Luckily it was in pretty good shape so there wasn't a lot that needed done.
I have the deck off now so I plan on tearing it apart and painting it over the winter. Still a few little things that I'd like to do, replace all the fuel lines, new wheel bushings in the front wheels, etc. Tractor has 900 hours on it so it's been used but not abused. |

NAPA 1410 or Wix 51410 for the filter. 7qts. of hydro fluid. Also make sure your deck lift control is centered, sometimes if they are sticky and stuck part way in up or down it will make them howl.

Mine was very loud, the fluid and filter changed made a big difference.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
