I tend to agree with J-Mech. But i did see Cub 100 that was painted highway orange. It appeared to be factory paint as there was no yellow visible inside the frame or on the trans. It wasn't a restored tractor. the guy told me he bought it from the Montana Department of Transportation annual sale. I really should have taken a pic of it. You could get a JD140 in a solid light blue color as a city tractor.

My question is, were there any "special edition" narrow frame cubs? Or what would you guys do if you were to custom build one? I was thinking a white tractor with red wheels and a red hood.
Sounds like fun! I prefer standard color as well, but that don't imply I'd never try something new!

Trust me, I love the original color more than anything, but I've always liked the idea of having something that nobody else has.

Why not just get a JD patio tractor? I've got other brands of GT's. Nothing wrong with collecting other equipment. You can't be prejudiced!!

Or you could do a custom build... not just custom paint.

The thing about having something that no one else does is the it's only cool if it's rare. If it's just custom, then it's just custom. Rare is rare. Custom is not rare.

It's your tractor, paint it any color you like. As long as you are happy, that's all that matters. My 121 is red, and I love it!

I don't have a problem with Deere equipment, that's what I've grown up running. The reason I don't go for a john Deere patio, is the price tag. The ones I've seen around here have always been sky high.

Disclaimer: I want to make this clear to the people who get bent out of shape when I give my opinion. Anyone can do whatever they want with their own equipment, but the OP opened this up for discussion, and I want to give my point of view.

I know what you mean. But here's the thing. That's kind of the fun of this whole hobby. I want an 800. I also want a 140-H3 Deere. I have yet to find either for the price I want to pay. "Affordable" if you will. I've missed out on a couple very good priced 800's this last year because they just came up at the wrong time for me..... you know, right as I spent $800 on vehicle repairs... or right after I bought my motorcycle, that kind of thing. The fun is looking for what you want, at a price you want to pay. I WILL own both an 800 AND a JD 140-H3 someday, and I will pay a price I'm happy with. My suggestion is KEEP LOOKING! Find what you want. Don't just build what you want.... this lifestyle that is taught in America is "RIGHT NOW". "I want it all, and I want it NOW!" Not saying that is you, but that mentality tends to carry over. If you want a tractor like a JD patio tractor, then get one! You don't have to build one.... I am a purist... sort of. I LOVE it when people do a custom job that looks like it rolled out of the factory like that. I also LOVE a good quality restoration. Unfortunately, both are rare. I'd rather see you restore and O and buy a JD Patio tractor, than restore an O to look like a JD patio. But.... that's my OPINION.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
