Leon, I took this off of a 104 to put in my 126 and I had to replace the seals and some bearings. It was nasty inside. I don't know if this is your problem but in the second picture the case has an indent for the shifter poppet to hold in gear. It may be that it is too loose causing it to fall out of gear.

That or the shift fork is so worn that it can't slide the collar all the way on. I would take it off and see what's going on.

Hello Matt, you have some serious Cub knowledge, much respect! I'm having the same issue on the O' I just got and was wandering if you had any insight to why it won't stay in direct drive, stays in under drive fine and works in direct, but have to hold it there. Thanks, appreciate any help!

It could be something similar, but I have never had or been into an O creeper, so your guess is probably as good as mine. I want to say those aren't the same design, but I don't know for sure. I know basically everything inside is NLA, so I'd take it off and see what's going on so you don't break something.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
