Wanted to share a couple pics of my company's wood mizer outfitted with an Onan 20. This was bought new in 87 and the motor has allegedly never been touched. Has a lot of power, runs smooth as silk. I used it years ago but the Onan motor didn't mean much to me until I got my 982, thought seeing one in an industrial application was pretty cool

Pic of the engine. Maybe next week when back on site I can get a video of it in action. The scope of work called for all logs to be hand hewn, and we did our share of hewing 12-16" x 16' white oak logs down to 9"x5 1/2", but the last handful in the interest of time are being done by the mizer, running it to within 1/4" and broad axing the face is much easier.
Also, this is being done at Hampton historic park in Towson MD right off 695. Really neat place I never knew existed and been by it a million times

I am a fan of the Onan also.
Friend of mine works on Onan generators He says the engine is a good design but in the generator application, people would not take care of the air filter,it would plug up and suck the oil out of the crankcase causing you know what I love the sound of the individual exaust on my 982.

I have a 24HP Onan on a GT with a 6 foot cut,,,
I have never had to downshift due to the lack of engine power,,, the tractor will mow at 4.2MPH. When mowing fields, 18" tall grass,,, I do not get a "clean cut" when the grass is that tall, but the engine never bogs down. ![]() My Onan sounds more like a big electric motor,,, than an engine!! The bearings in the deck seem to make a rougher noise than the engine!! This video shows the Onan eating the TALL grass,,, remember, it has a six foot deck. https://youtu.be/6YEbw4pwNEs?t=1m1s |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
