Welcome to the group. You have a very important piece of the puzzle to the history of Cub Cadet. And more important is that it was something your grandfather bought new with his hard earned money and used for many years the way it sounds... They weren't cheap "back in the day".
Hope you decide to keep it. Know this, you can get by on the cheap by just getting it running and using it as is for now, or keep it in it's original condition, as your grandfather left it.
Hope you stick around to let us know what you do with it. If you sell it the money's gone in short order, and there's nothing left but regret. Oh hell, just keep it.

Yes, welcome to OCC. And yes, keep it. I am looking for an "O" so I can restore it. I'm told they are just a fun tractor to own, and very simple to work on. If I could find two, I'd buy them both.

Oh yes keep it. My son and I regret that we did not have a chance to get hold of my dad's "O". We did buy an "O" and plan to restore it in his memory but to have the actual machine that was Dads would bring more satisfaction. This is no longer possible so we are doing the next best thing.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
