Guessing its an oil field engine, most of the big ones are. Drawing a blank on names but a couple more popular ones are Reid and Pattin Bros. Bessemer may have made some and possibly Foos. Look it over good, most oil field engines being run at displays are using propane, my understanding is they ran off gas from the well. There were also quite a few steam to gas conversions done.

they been starting it with a pony/tire arrangement. Fairbanks is another maker, so many made them back in those days, I wouldn't venture to guess, but I'm thinking about 25 Hp. I can guarantee, it won't sell for scrap price! |

The ones I have seen listed for sale were not terribly expensive, I'm thinking somewhere in the $3-5,000 range. They are just so darn big most folks don't have a truck big enough to move it, a shed big enough to store it, and most of them take a couple guys to crank. Not exactly the thing you can just roll out of the corner of your garage and fire up while you sit in a lawn chair and let it run. 30 years ago someone was liquidating an oil lease in West Va. and was selling a bunch of them---take your pick $600--you had to remove it from the pumphouse. We thought about going to get one, and then common sense prevailed.
![]() It looks like that one is running on gasoline. Looks like a fuel tank off a baler or combine rigged up above the cylinder.

I kind of thought it looked like a Fairbanks. I also was thinking about 25hp. I tried to find a pic of one similar, but I couldn't. All I know for sure, is it's bigger than a 15hp.

Most all of the old motor like that I've worked on were Fairbanks Morse 118 and 208's. They all ran LP, or even well gas. I think they get kind of hot on gasoline, and hard to regulate. I could be wrong, I don't mess with them much anymore.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
