Thanks for the tip!

Anybody have any tips on getting my metal fan off my old drive shaft? I've loosened the obvious set screws but it will not budge and I'm afraid of hitting it too hard with drift and hammer... and breaking fan or deforming it in someway...

Since your old driveshaft is shot, I would saw the end off close to the fan. ( flange end) Remove all burrs with a file and slide a piece of close fitting pipe or tubing over the long end of the driveshaft. A bolt on the sawed end to allow the fan to slide off and tap the pipe to drive the fan off.

Thanks Jeff, That worked out very nicely! It slides right on your replacement shaft. My yellow paint came in today, so I will try to paint the parts today and tomorrow so I can install them this weekend.

Glad to hear it worked well

Don't paint the end of the driveshaft where it slips into the hub. I don't make it with "paint clearance".

My brake plunger is leaking and needs a new oring, how do I get the brake arm out? It's stuck between two pieces of metal that do not move from the frame?

I was putting my tractor back together, and I think I did something stupid. I forgot to press the pin in the end of the driveshaft for the engine do I need to split my tractor to put the pin in or can I just try to pound it in with a hammer in place?

I ask because someone warned me to support the end of the hydro when pinning the flex disc couple on it...

The part in this picture labled "pivot pin" goes through the hole in the part labled "brake lever". The part labled "adjusting screw" must be completely taken out. When it is in, it goes through the groove in the pivot pin and keeps the pivot pin from coming out. Alot of rust may have formed on the pivot pin, so soak it real good with penetrating oil before trying to tap it out. The part in the picture labled "retainer" is where your "O" ring is. Once you get all the external parts off nothing holds it in but it can be a bitcz to get out. Once again lots of penetrating oil and prying.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
