I've got this new-to-me (first CC, first Kohler engine) model 123 with a K301. It's running, but requires the choke to be on halfway in order to do so. It's pretty obvious I've got either a) some serious vacuum leaks (given the play in the throttle shaft, it's not surprising) or b) I've got a fuel restriction somewhere (given how long this thing sat before being resurrected, that's not surprising either!)
It's obvious that I need to rebuild the carb. (I've done this sort of thing before, so I know how to go about the task.) My K301 has the Kohler carb, and I can't find any indication that there was more than one model of the Kohler carb. Still, I see many of the dealers listing the carb kit for this engine as either #25 757 01-S or #25 757 02-S. How do I determine which I need - the official Kohler manual was no help. Second, every description of the fuel bowl says it has a screen of some sort. I pulled the bowl today (it had a healthy pile of sediment in the bottom), but I saw no screen. I've looked at pictures of new bowls on a couple of dealer sites, but I see no screen inside the bowl on theirs, either. Where is this mysterious screen?

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
